The Bible
We believe the Bible, which includes the thirty-nine books of the Old Testament and the twenty-seven books of the New Testament, to be the divinely inspired, infallible, inerrant, supreme and final authoritative Word of God for faith and life. (Ps. 19:7-11; Luke 24:27; John 17:17; Acts 17:2-3; 2 Tim 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20-21; 3:15-16)
God
We believe in God, who is three persons, Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, yet one Being.
- We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayers; that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ (1 John 1:5; Psalm 129; Hebrews 7:25).
- We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, His virgin birth, His divine nature, His sinless life, making atonement for the sins of the world by His death. We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His intercession for His people, His visible return to the world according to His Promise (John 3:16; 1 Peter 2:24; John 14:3).
- We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convict the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment, and to regenerate, seal, sanctify, empowers and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ. We also believe that each believer in Jesus Christ is at conversion indwelt by the Holy Spirit and baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ giving gifts to equip the saints for service (John 16; 1 Corinthians 12:13).
Sinful Man & New (Spiritual) Birth
We believe that man was originally created in the image of God. That by nature and by choice we are sinners, incurring physical and spiritual death, but that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believe in Him should not perish but have everlasting life; we believe therefore that those who accepted Christ as Lord and Savior are born again and eternally secured in Him and will rejoice forever in God’s presence. Those who refuse to accept Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God in Hell (John 10:28; 14:12).
Direct Relationship with God
We believe that every human being has the opportunity for direct relations with God, and is responsible to God in matters of faith (Romans 10:13; 14:12).
Humanity and Marriage
We believe humanity, male and female, are uniquely made in the image of God and for His glory, to exercise dominion over the earth, and to enjoy a relationship with Him forever. God created Adam and Eve as adults and the first married couple in His sight (Genesis chapters 2-4). Subsequently human life, which begins at conception, is a gift from God deserving of respect, care and protection. Sin entered the world when Adam, representing us, disobeyed God. The effect is that all people are sinners by nature and choice, are spiritually dead, and are in need of a Savior.
The family is established by God and is the foundational institution of society. He has designed marriage to be a life-long commitment between one man and one woman. We believe the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the unity of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in scripture (Genesis 2:18-25). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4). We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged outside of marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and wrong to God (Matthew 15:18-20; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26-27). Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.
Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as a covenant relationship between a man, a woman, and Himself, FBC of Page will recognize marriages only between a biological man and a biological woman. Furthermore, the Senior Pastor, and any other pastors or staff of FBC of Page shall only participate in weddings and solemnize marriage between one man and one woman. The facilities and property of FBC of Page shall only host weddings between one man and one woman.
We believe that a Christian should only marry a fellow Christian, based on the passage of
2 Corinthians 6:14-17. Therefore, FBC of Page will not perform by church staff (or allow the church facilities to be used for) a wedding between a Christian and a non-Christian.
Church
We believe Jesus Christ established the Church, of which He is the Head. It is composed of all who have been born again by the Holy Spirit and have placed saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Each local church is independent of any ecclesiastical or political authority (Matt. 16:18; Eph, 5:23; Col 1:18; Eph. 2:8-10; Titus 3:5-7; Romans 10:13, 14:12).
- Communion: The church celebrates Communion with the use of bread and the cup (fruit of the vine) symbolizing the body of blood of Christ, in accordance with the accounts given in the Scriptures. We believe that the Lord’s Supper should be part of the Church life, thus we observe it frequently and regularly (Matt. 26:20-30; Mark 14:17-27; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Cor. 11:1-24).
- Baptism: Baptism is administered by immersion to born again believers. It is an act of obedience to Jesus Christ, a symbol of identification with Christ and the Holy Spirit’s inward work of regeneration. Baptism does not impart salvation, but follows salvation. As a public testimony, baptism is an outward sign of an inward faith, and a declaration to diligently follow Christ (Matt. 28:18-19; Romans 6:4; Matt. 10:32-33; Acts 8:12; Ephesians 2:8-9).
